Not Just an App: Inside the OS-Level AI Engine of Nubia’s Next-Gen Doubao Phone

September 2, 2026 – Nubia President Ni Fei has announced that the next-generation “Doubao Phone” will officially go on sale in September under the official name Nubia NaviX Ultra, positioning it as the world’s first AI Agent flagship.

Ni Fei stated that from the release of the M153 last December to the Nubia NaviX Ultra officially receiving network access approval, the AI Agent smartphone has reached the most critical phase of its “last mile” journey from concept to mass production.

Ni Fei candidly remarked that there is no ready-made path, and every step requires exploration and the support of partners. From large model filing to terminal network access approval, they have taken the lead in completing the entire compliance process for AI Agent smartphones. He emphasized that ensuring user peace of mind is the prerequisite for technological innovation, and expressed sincere gratitude to relevant departments and industry partners for their support.

It is understood that the new-generation Doubao Phone differs fundamentally from “phones with AI features” currently on the market. Traditional AI phones still center around the operating system, with AI merely serving as an advanced application layered on top. In contrast, the Doubao Phone is a native AI smartphone. The large model agent is no longer an application on par with apps, but a core engine embedded deep within the operating system’s foundation.

This architecture endows the Doubao Phone with unique advantages. It can “see” the phone screen, identify buttons, and simulate clicks just like a human. For example, a user only needs to say, “Book the cheapest flight to Shanghai for me tomorrow,” and the AI will automatically open the ticketing app, complete the entire process of searching, comparing, and filling in information, only returning control to the user for confirmation right before payment. The entire process requires no manual intervention from the user, as the AI executes the tasks on their behalf.

Regarding privacy and security, all memory storage and computations are completed locally on the device, with no data uploaded to the cloud, effectively safeguarding users’ personal information.

The emergence of the Doubao Phone marks a new stage in human-computer interaction, transitioning from “humans operating phones” to “AI operating phones for humans.” The phone is no longer just a tool requiring manual operation; it has evolved into an intelligent assistant capable of proactively handling tasks for users.
