DeepSeek Adds Search and Fetch APIs for Agents and RAG Applications

October 19, 2026 — DeepSeek announced that its API now supports web search and content fetching, with billing based on request volume at a rate of 5 yuan per 1,000 successful requests.

According to the announcement, users who have been calling the DeepSeek API through tools such as DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code or Codex have already had their Search and Fetch interface calls routed through the server side. These calls have so far been free of charge, but starting from 00:00 Beijing Time on November 1, 2026, they will begin to be billed per call.

DeepSeek officially launched the Search and Fetch APIs on October 17. Both interfaces use DeepSeek’s self-developed search engine to provide real-time web content for Agents and RAG applications.

The Search interface performs web searches based on queries and returns structured results, while the Fetch interface retrieves individual web pages and returns titles and body text in Markdown format.

Both are raw JSON APIs with a base URL of api.deepseek.com, using the same Bearer authentication as the DeepSeek API.
