Apple Updates Xcode and TestFlight in Preparation for Vision Pro Headset Launch

January 09, 2024 – In preparation for the upcoming launch of its Vision Pro mixed reality headset in the United States on February 2, Apple today released updated versions of Xcode 15.2 and TestFlight 3.5.

According to the release notes, Xcode 15.2 comes equipped with the visionOS SDK and has addressed several bugs within the existing visionOS system. This update enables developers to create visionOS applications specifically for the Apple Vision Pro headset. Additionally, the update includes SDKs for iOS 17.2, iPadOS 17.2, tvOS 17.2, watchOS 10.2, and macOS Sonoma 14.2.

TestFlight 3.5, on the other hand, now supports beta testing of visionOS applications for the first time. It also allows the use of compatible iOS and iPadOS applications on the Vision Pro headset.

Starting today, Apple has announced that developers can submit applications created for visionOS to the Apple Vision Pro App Store. Many iPhone and iPad applications can run on the Apple Vision Pro without any modifications, but developers have the option to optimize their apps for the headset.

By default, Apple plans to release iPhone and iPad applications on the Vision Pro store, but developers can opt-out through App Store Connect if they choose.

As previously reported, Apple announced that its mixed reality headset, Vision Pro, will be available for purchase at all U.S. Apple Store retail locations and on the Apple website on February 2, with pre-orders starting on Friday, January 19.
