Apple iPhone Air: Keeping the Titanium Frame Tradition Alive

September 10, 2025 – Apple recently held a highly – anticipated event themed “Super Exciting Ahead” and unveiled a series of new iPhones, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the iPhone Air.

Among these new releases, the iPhone Air stole the spotlight. It is the first iPhone to be equipped with the A19 Pro chip. What’s more, it holds the title of being the thinnest iPhone ever, with a mere thickness of 5.6mm. In a move that is set to shake up the global market, the iPhone Air has introduced eSIM technology and completely done away with the physical SIM card slot.

On Apple’s official website, in the “Model Comparison” section, it is clearly stated that the iPhone Air retains the titanium frame that was previously featured on the iPhone Pro series from the last two generations. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max have made a design change. They have abandoned the titanium frame and instead adopted an aluminum – alloy unibody frame.

Looking back at Apple’s history, in 2023, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were outfitted with a brand – new titanium frame. This material brought several advantages. It was highly strong, lightweight, and corrosion – resistant. Thanks to this new frame material, the iPhone 15 Pro saw a significant weight reduction. Compared to the iPhone 14 Pro, which weighed 206 grams, the iPhone 15 Pro dropped to 187 grams, a decrease of 19 grams.

Additionally, the titanium frame of the iPhone 15 Pro series was much more scratch – resistant than the surgical – grade stainless steel used in previous iPhone Pro models. Before the switch to the titanium frame, iPhone Pro users often complained about unsightly scratches caused by keys and other hard objects. However, after the adoption of the titanium frame in the 15 Pro series, such complaints have significantly decreased.
