January 15, 2025 – A regional court in Russia has imposed a fine of 8 billion Rubles on Alphabet’s Google, as reported by Reuters on Tuesday. The penalty stems from the company’s failure to comply with a previous regulatory decision.

In recent years, Russia has frequently demanded that foreign tech platforms remove content deemed illegal and has imposed small but consistent fines for non-compliance. However, this fine marks a significant jump from the usual penalties, which often hover around 4 million Rubles.
The Moscow Chertanovo District Court stated that the fine was issued due to Google’s failure to adhere to an administrative penalty. The court did not specify the nature of the administrative violation linked to the fine.
As of press time, Google has not publicly responded to the imposed fine.
