Microsoft Bing Tests AI-Powered “Experimental” Search Mode for One-Stop Information Summary

February 25, 2025 – Microsoft has officially announced that it is in the process of integrating an AI-driven “experimental search” mode into its Bing search engine, although specific technical details have yet to be disclosed.

According to insiders quoted by 9to5Google, Bing’s upcoming “AI Search” will offer users a one-stop summary of their queries, eliminating the need to navigate through multiple web pages to find the information they need. This feature bears a resemblance to current connected generative AI assistants.

The insiders revealed that the interface for this mode is designed to be quite minimalistic, only displaying the user’s query and the AI-compiled information. On the right side of the interface, there will be options for “Images” and “Videos,” while at the bottom of the page, suggestions for follow-up questions will be provided. Users will also have the option to input their own questions.

Furthermore, this mode will eliminate all traditional website links, replacing them with AI-compiled information. At the end of the summary, sources of the information will be listed to allow users to verify the facts. This design is similar to the “AI Connected Search Function” currently being developed by Google.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft deployed an AI assistant powered by models such as GPT-4 and DALLE-3 for Windows last January and hired Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Google DeepMind, last year to fully advance its AI projects. Therefore, Bing’s upcoming “AI Search” function is likely to be a fruit of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts in the field of AI.
