Amazon Hits Pause on Kindle Colorsoft Shipments Due to Screen Defect

November 06, 2024 – Amazon, the global e-commerce giant, launched multiple Kindle e-readers in mid-October, including its inaugural color e-paperback, the Kindle Colorsoft, priced at $279.99. However, the highly anticipated device has hit a snag.

According to reports from GoodEReader, Amazon has informed customers who purchased the Kindle Colorsoft that their order shipments will be suspended. The company has pushed back all shipment dates for its colored e-reader by “a week or longer.” The reports cite a display issue that causes a “yellow bar” to appear at the bottom of the screen.

Customers have been notified that the device’s shipment in the United States could fall between November 9th and 18th, while those in the UK are expected to receive their units around November 26th. Originally, the device was scheduled to begin shipping on October 30th.

Amazon became aware of the issue after users flooded the product page with negative reviews. One user mentioned that the yellow bar occupies “5-10%” of the screen’s bottom section. Subsequently, a growing number of users echoed this concern, inundating the Kindle Colorsoft’s page with similar comments.

Confirming the news to The Verge, Amazon spokesperson Jill Tornifoglio stated, “We have noticed a small number of users reporting a yellow bar issue at the bottom of the display. We prioritize product quality and are investigating this matter. Customers who notice this issue on their device can reach out to our customer service team.”

Furthermore, Amazon initially advertised the Kindle Colorsoft as supporting a dark mode. However, the company now clarifies on the product page that this feature is temporarily unavailable. As an alternative, Amazon suggests users utilize the “Page Soft” function, which offers a similar experience.

While the display issue appears widespread, Amazon has assured customers that they are developing a patch to address it. This indication suggests that the problem might be software-related, although Amazon has not disclosed a timeline for the patch’s release.
