Apple’s Foldable iPhone Expected in 2026 to Boost Sluggish Market

December 3, 2024 – Despite the current stagnation in the foldable smartphone market due to waning consumer interest, the upcoming launch of Apple’s foldable iPhone is poised to change the game, according to display analyst Ross Young.

In his report on the current state of the foldable smartphone market, Young noted that Apple is expected to “enter the foldable market” in the second half of 2026. The company’s “dominant position” in the flagship smartphone segment could potentially drive significant growth in the foldable market in 2026, ultimately pushing foldable phone sales to record highs.

Young predicts that the foldable market will grow by more than 30% in 2026, followed by sustained growth of 20% in 2027 and 2028.

Rumors have long circulated that Apple is developing a foldable iPhone, with some analysts suggesting that the company could introduce the device around September 2026.

The first foldable iPhone is likely to feature a screen size ranging from 7.9 to 8.3 inches and may adopt a “flip” design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. This flip-style iPhone would fold vertically, offering a full-size iPhone experience when unfolded and a more compact, portable form factor when folded.
