OpenAI CEO Altman Expresses Desire to Collaborate with China in AI

February 12, 2025 – Elon Musk and other investors have proposed a $974 billion bid to acquire the non-profit parent company of OpenAI, which Musk co-founded, on February 10th local time.

According to CCTV News, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, reiterated at the AI Action Summit in Paris, France, that “the company is not for sale” and expressed his willingness to cooperate with China in the field of artificial intelligence, stating, “We are willing to cooperate with China in the field of artificial intelligence and will do our utmost to achieve this, because it is very important.”

Some observers believe that Musk’s proposed acquisition of OpenAI’s operating assets may be a mere provocation, possibly related to his current litigation with OpenAI.

The Wall Street Journal had previously reported that Musk intended to acquire the non-profit portion of OpenAI. However, given that non-profit organizations do not have shareholders, the $974 billion acquisition plan may not be feasible. Therefore, it appears that Musk’s focus in this acquisition is on OpenAI’s underlying assets, potentially aiming to create a competitive bidding situation.
