Samsung Debuts ‘A Team’ Dedicated to Developing OLED Panels for Apple

May 07, 2024 – According to a recent blog post by technology media outlet oled-info, Samsung Display has assembled a new research and development team called the “A Team,” dedicated exclusively to developing OLED panel products for Apple.

The media outlet reported that this R&D team, located within the research center at Samsung Display’s headquarters in Asan, South Korea, aims to enhance the company’s competitiveness against LG Display and Chinese AMOLED manufacturers by meeting Apple’s high-end OLED panel requirements.

Samsung Display has secured a majority of the iPhone AMOLED orders. However, they have faced several challenges in mass-producing AMOLED panels for the 11-inch iPad. Meanwhile, LG Display, leveraging its experience in automotive displays, holds a leading position in tandem OLED architecture.

In addition to LG Display, Samsung Display is also increasingly feeling the pressure from Chinese AMOLED manufacturers, who are ramping up their production capacity and beginning to secure Apple panel orders.
