Tesla CEO Elon Musk Responds to Rumors: Our Factories Are Products in Themselves

February 23, 2025 – Recent rumors have indicated a possibility of Tesla investing in Nissan. According to a report by Fortune magazine, some influential figures in Japan have prepared a proposal for Tesla, suggesting an investment in Nissan, specifically focusing on acquiring Nissan’s plant in the United States.

Responding to these rumors, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, took to social media platform X to share the Fortune article, commenting, “Tesla’s factories are products themselves. The Cybercab production line stands unique in the automotive industry.”

Over the years, Musk has consistently emphasized that Tesla’s factories constitute a significant part of the company’s offerings. The Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory, for instance, incorporated lessons learned from the early Model 3 production in the GA4 tent factory. These insights were fully implemented in the construction of the Chinese plant. Later, Tesla further refined its factory model during the establishment of its Gigafactory in Grünheide, Germany.

Notably, during the 2023 Investor Day presentation, Tesla introduced its distinctive “unboxed process” production model. Given Tesla’s ambitions in manufacturing technology, retrofitting an old car factory might prove more challenging than building a new one from scratch for electric vehicle manufacturers.

If Nissan hopes to attract investment from Tesla, its US factory may not be a strong bargaining chip in the negotiations.
