August 31, 2026 – Huawei Terminal announced that the Huawei Mate XT 2 is now open for pre-order starting at 10:08 AM today. This device marks the debut of the new-generation “Wing-Spreading” tri-fold architecture.
The most significant highlight of the new model is the abandonment of the previous Z-shaped folding mechanism in favor of a completely new U-shaped double-inner-fold design. In this configuration, the two secondary screens fold inward, completely encapsulating the flexible inner screen within the device’s body. This fundamentally mitigates the risks of scratches and impacts associated with exposed flexible screens, significantly enhancing the durability of the foldable device.
Additionally, the right side of the device is equipped with a dedicated external screen. This allows users to make calls, reply to messages, and scan QR codes for payments without needing to unfold the main display, resolving many of the daily usability issues of the first-generation tri-fold phones. When fully unfolded, the device still offers a massive screen, perfectly balancing portability with large-screen productivity.
The rear camera module retains the iconic octagonal design, and the device is available in several new vegan leather color options. Huawei has further refined the device’s thinness and lightness, achieving a new benchmark in body thickness despite accommodating dual hinges and both inner and outer screens.
According to leaks, the new phone will also support direct heart rate monitoring via the smartphone. This technology, which first debuted on the Huawei Pura 90 Pro, utilizes rear sensors to collect physiological data, enabling basic health checks without the need for external wearable devices.
On the software front, the Mate XT 2 will be the first to launch with HarmonyOS 7. The system features exclusive optimizations for multi-window and split-screen interactions tailored to the tri-fold large screen, further unlocking the device’s potential for large-screen office work and multitasking.
Regarding specific performance metrics, current leaks are divided into two camps: one suggests the device will be powered by the Kirin 9030S, while the other claims it will debut the next-generation Kirin 9050 series chip. The final specifications remain to be officially revealed by Huawei.
