December 17, 2024 – At the New York Times DealBook Summit, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, highly praised Tesla’s leading position in the field of autonomous driving, placing it alongside Waymo as industry leaders.
“Clearly, Tesla is a frontrunner in this domain. In my view, Tesla and Waymo stand out as the top two,” Pichai stated. He further added, “Tesla has made remarkable progress in this area.”
It’s worth noting that Tesla has recently begun rolling out the latest version of its “supervised FSD” software to customers. According to Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s Vice President of AI Software, the FSD team aims to achieve a “fully functional unsupervised FSD” through the v13 software series.
Moreover, Pichai pointed out that Waymo is currently operational in 6 to 7 cities and plans to expand to 10 cities in the US by the end of next year.
As a subsidiary of Alphabet, Waymo recently announced the deployment of its all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles in Miami, with plans to offer a public ride-hailing service starting in 2026. Currently, Waymo provides over 150,000 trips per week in Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Austin. Last month, the company raised $5.6 billion in a funding round led by Alphabet.
