March 14, 2025 – TechCrunch reported on Tuesday that the ransomware gang, Hunters International, recently released a portion of data they claim to have stolen from Tata Technologies. More than a month later, Tata confirmed a ransomware attack that occurred last year, which had led to service disruptions. The leaked data, including personal information of some Tata Technologies employees and confidential data such as purchase orders and contracts with Indian and American clients, has been published on the gang’s dark web leak site. According to the gang, the dataset comprises over 730,000 documents, including Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint files, and PDFs, totaling approximately 1.4TB. In late January, Tata Technologies notified the Indian Stock Exchange about the ransomware attack that affected some of its IT assets, stating that customer services remained unaffected and operational. However, it remains unclear whether the data released by Hunters International is related to the ransomware incident disclosed by Tata Technologies earlier this year.

Tata Technologies, founded in 1989 as a division of Tata Motors and spun off as an independent subsidiary of the Tata Group in 1994, provides product design and R&D services to the automotive, aerospace, and engineering industries. With over 12,500 employees across 27 countries and 20 delivery centers, the company has a global presence. On the other hand, Hunters International is a relatively new ransomware-as-a-service gang, established in late 2023. They provide infrastructure support to affiliated hackers for ransomware attacks, sharing a portion of the ransom income.
