NVIDIA’s Huang Suggests CPU’s Obsolescence, Hinting at Potential Intel, AMD, Qualcomm Acquisitions

June 03, 2024 – In a recent public address, Jensen Huang, a renowned industry figure, sparked a debate by suggesting that the CPU era is gradually coming to an end, citing its diminishing performance scalability and the pressing need for accelerated processing of intensive applications.

Huang’s speech highlighted the significant slowdown in the performance scaling of the computing industry’s engine — the Central Processing Unit (CPU). Despite this, he emphasized that the computational demands continue to multiply exponentially.

“As the CPU scaling pace decelerates and ultimately plateaus, it’s imperative that we expedite the acceleration of every compute-intensive application,” Huang said. “Every data center stands to benefit from this acceleration, making it a logical and sensible next step.”

To address this challenge, NVIDIA has pioneered a solution by introducing specialized coprocessors that augment the CPU, effectively accelerating demanding applications.

Given Huang’s current wealth and NVIDIA’s prowess, acquiring industry giants such as AMD, Qualcomm, and Intel would theoretically be a feasible move. However, the formidable hurdle of antitrust approvals remains a significant impediment.
