Overtaking Tesla: Xiaomi SU7 Dominates China’s Premium EV Sedan Market

August 17, 2026 – Xiaomi has reached a monumental milestone in the electric vehicle sector, with its SU7 series surpassing 500,000 cumulative deliveries. Xiaomi founder, Chairman, and CEO Lei Jun announced today that this impressive feat was achieved in just 28.5 months since the first vehicles were handed over on April 3, 2024.

To celebrate this achievement, Xiaomi is offering 10,000 limited-edition 1:43 scale alloy car models. Starting today, customers who schedule and complete a test drive will receive a model on a first-come, first-served basis.

The SU7 series has rapidly expanded since its debut. The first-generation SU7 was officially launched on March 28, 2024, with deliveries beginning on April 3. The lineup grew to include the high-performance SU7 Ultra, which launched on February 27, 2025, starting at 529,900 RMB. Most recently, a refreshed generation of the SU7 was unveiled on March 19, 2026, with prices ranging from 219,900 to 303,900 RMB. The series now comprises Standard, Pro, Max, and Ultra variants.

The SU7 has set multiple records for delivery speed in China’s pure electric sedan market. In 2025, it sold 258,164 units domestically, overtaking the Tesla Model 3 (200,361 units) to become the best-selling pure electric sedan in the 200,000+ RMB segment. This momentum has continued into 2026, with the SU7 ranking first in its segment for four consecutive months, including 21,044 units sold in July.

Xiaomi Auto delivered over 410,000 vehicles in 2025, a year-on-year increase of more than 200%. In January 2026, Lei Jun set an annual delivery target of 550,000 units, equivalent to the combined total of the previous two years. As of August 17, the SU7 series has surpassed 500,000 units, indicating steady progress toward this ambitious goal.

On the performance front, the SU7 Ultra has established new technical benchmarks. On October 28, 2024, the SU7 Ultra prototype set a Nürburgring record for the fastest four-door car with a time of 6:46.874. The production version further broke this record on June 26, 2025, with a time of 6:22.091, claiming the title of the world’s fastest production four-door car.
