BYD’s New Tang Promises 10% to 97% in Just 9 Minutes

August 18, 2026 – BYD is set to make a major splash at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, which opens on August 21, with the global debut of its all-new Tang SUV. Positioned as a mid-to-large, five-seat flagship, the new Tang will form a dual-flagship matrix alongside the full-size, seven-seat “Da Tang,” and will introduce a completely new product naming system ahead of its expected market launch in the second half of 2026.

Visually, the all-new Tang embraces BYD’s latest Dynasty family design language. The front fascia features a closed grille paired with upward-swept headlight clusters and a continuous chrome strip, flanked by large air intakes. The side profile boasts a floating roofline, semi-hidden door handles, and a choice of 20- or 21-inch wheels. At the rear, a continuous LED taillight bar integrates the BYD logo, complemented by a large roof spoiler to enhance visual depth. The vehicle measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm and front/rear tracks of 1,700 mm. While its length, wheelbase, and height are nearly identical to the Tang L, it is slightly narrower.

A standout feature of the new Tang is its standardization of advanced technology. Every model will come equipped with the “DiPilot B” (Tianshen Zhiyan B) intelligent driving system as standard equipment, significantly enhancing driving safety. Under the hood, current filings indicate a single-motor variant powered by a TZ205QYD permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 300 kW (approx. 402 hp) and a top speed of 250 km/h. Energy is supplied by second-generation Blade Batteries in either 88.682 kWh or 105.792 kWh capacities, offering CLTC pure-electric ranges of 730 km, 830 km, and 850 km.

Charging capabilities are equally impressive, utilizing BYD’s proprietary flash-charging technology. Building on the world-record-breaking speeds announced in March, the system can replenish the battery from 10% to 70% in just five minutes at room temperature, and from 10% to 97% in only nine minutes. Even in extreme -30°C conditions, a 10% to 97% charge takes merely 12 minutes. Finally, the ride quality is elevated by the DiSus-A (Yunnian-A) intelligent air body control system. Featuring dual-chamber air suspension and intelligent road preview, this advanced chassis technology dynamically adjusts to road conditions to deliver an optimal balance of comfort and stability.
