November 18, 2024 – Tesla has introduced a 1:10 scale model of its Optimus robot in its online store this week, which sold out in less than a day. Priced at $40, the miniature version of the robot has garnered significant attention from consumers.
On Friday, Tesla unveiled the highly detailed Optimus robot model, featuring over 40 individual components and 20 points of articulation. Within 24 hours, the demand for this collectible surpassed the initial supply, leading Tesla to offer an email notification service for when the model becomes available again.
Describing the model as a “mini autonomous assistant and humanoid friend,” Tesla emphasized its collectability and playability. The robot model, which includes a mini charging station replica and a Cyberhammer, measures 2.16 inches wide by 7.16 inches tall and weighs 1.7 ounces. While Tesla has previously released scale models of its vehicles, this marks the first time the company has ventured into non-vehicle product models.
Tesla first showcased the full-size Optimus robot during its 2022 AI Day. Since then, the company has been steadily progressing in its development. According to CEO Elon Musk’s statements during the first quarter earnings call, Tesla aims to start delivering the actual robots by 2025. Musk also anticipated a price drop for the robots over time, potentially reaching 25,000to30,000. Meanwhile, Tesla has already begun utilizing Optimus robots to perform simple tasks within its factories.
