Apple’s Low-Cost Vision Pro Mass Production Pushed Back to 2027 and Beyond, Says Analyst

November 04, 2024 – According to a recent statement by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the mass production of the low-cost version of Vision Pro has been delayed until after 2027 for some time now.

Kuo clarified that this means Apple’s new head-mounted display device in 2025 will only feature an upgraded Vision Pro with an M5 processor.

The analyst believes that Apple’s decision to postpone the mass production of the low-cost Vision Pro is primarily due to the realization that merely reducing the price does not guarantee successful use cases. This is evident in the example of the HomePod, where the introduction of the low-cost HomePod mini failed to make Apple’s smart speaker a mainstream product after the original HomePod’s sales did not meet expectations.

Previous reports from DigiTimes and other industry sources have suggested that Apple is exploring the use of low-resolution displays for the low-cost version of its Vision Pro spatial computing headset. The Elec reported that Apple has already received OLED display samples from Japan Display Inc. (JDI) with a pixel density of approximately 1500 pixels per inch (PPI), which is significantly lower than the 3391 PPI display used in the current Vision Pro.
