June 07, 2024 – According to the latest report released by market research firm Sensor Tower, the global mobile application market remained steady in the first quarter of 2024, with consumer spending reaching $35.8 billion, marking a year-on-year increase of 9.5%.
Interestingly, non-gaming applications contributed significantly to this growth, experiencing a notable 19.4% surge. In contrast, mobile games saw a more modest growth of 2.9%. Nonetheless, player spending on mobile games exceeded $20 billion for the first time in two years.
Looking at specific platforms, Apple’s App Store continued to dominate in terms of revenue. The store generated an impressive 24.6billion,representingan11.511.2 billion in revenue.
When it comes to mobile games, Apple had a strong quarter, earning 13billionfromgamerevenueinQ12024,anear67.3 billion.
In terms of downloads, Google Play led the way with 25.6 billion downloads, despite a 5.2% decrease from the previous year. Notably, Google Play’s download count was still more than three times higher than that of the App Store, which reached 8.4 billion downloads in the first quarter of 2024, a 2.1% increase year-on-year.
