Volkswagen’s EV Lineup to Remain Unchanged in 2025, ID.2 Arrives in 2026

January 22, 2025 – According to a report published today by carscoops, Volkswagen’s electric vehicle lineup will not see any new additions this year, further compounding the German automotive giant’s struggles.

The report indicates that Volkswagen will not be introducing any new electric car models in 2024 or 2025. The latest electric model, the ID.7 sedan, made its debut in the third quarter of 2023, while the highly anticipated ID.2 is only expected to arrive in select markets in 2026, with the North American market not being part of the initial launch.

The ID.2, priced below 25,000 euros, offers interior space comparable to that of a Golf, while maintaining the compactness and economy of a Polo.

Automotive analyst Matthias Schmidt stated that Volkswagen will be forced to sell older technology to new customers in the coming year, which will be a challenging task.

Volkswagen’s electric vehicle sales are facing headwinds in major markets such as the United States, Europe, and China. In Europe, subsidy cuts in key regions like Germany are suppressing demand. Meanwhile, in the Chinese market, which is crucial to Volkswagen’s long-term electric vehicle ambitions, the company is losing out to local competitors.
