Tesla’s Wireless Charging Vision Comes to Light with Four Newly Revealed Patents

September 09, 2024 – The United States Patent and Trademark Office has recently revealed four patents held by Tesla, which are related to wireless charging technology for vehicles. These patents suggest that Tesla cars may soon be capable of wireless charging, utilizing methods such as magnetic resonance.

Historically, Tesla had shown little interest in incorporating wireless charging into its electric vehicles, as wired charging was not considered to be excessively troublesome or time-consuming. Instead, the company had been leaning towards using automated robotic arms for vehicle charging, rather than wireless solutions. However, recent developments indicate a shift in this approach.

As reported on March 22nd of this year, Tesla quietly integrated an “inductive charger interface” into the battery pack of its Cybertruck, presumably to facilitate compatibility with future wireless charging devices.

Furthermore, Tesla has previously showcased a rendered image of a home charging station based on wireless charging technology, providing a glimpse into the potential design of such a system. It is worth noting that, while Tesla had briefly acquired a startup specializing in wireless charging and later sold it, the company retained some of its employees, suggesting a continued interest in this field.
