AI’s Workplace Invasion: 83% of Entry-Level Pros Fear Job Loss

September 09, 2024 – According to a survey conducted by Great Learning, an online education platform, a significant majority of entry-level professionals, accounting for 83%, have expressed that technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), is causing a “disruption” in their workplace. Simultaneously, AI and Machine Learning (ML) have emerged as the most preferred skill enhancement directions for employees in the fiscal year 2025.

Hari Krishnan Nair, the co-founder of Great Learning, highlighted that job loss and a sense of insecurity are primary concerns. “Many respondents have witnessed AI replacing jobs – maybe not their specific positions, but they genuinely fear that without upgrading their AI skills, they might become redundant within their organizations,” Nair stated.

Furthermore, Nair pointed out that IT services, consulting firms, and Global Capability Centers (GCCs) are poised to reap significant benefits in the short term by adopting more generative AI. Additionally, due to the productivity and efficiency gains driven by AI, some clients might demand fewer full-time employees (FTEs) per project.

Regarding skill enhancement, Nair added that while companies have traditionally focused on providing generative AI training to technical teams, they aim to expand this training to operational, customer service, human resources, finance, marketing, and other functional departments in the fiscal year 2025.
