Tesla Model 3 Ranks Lowest for Second Year in a Row in German TÜV Reliability Tests

November 25, 2024 – According to a report by Carscoops, the latest reliability test results released by the German TÜV association reveal that the Tesla Model 3 has ranked at the bottom for two consecutive years in both the 2-3 year and 4-5 year age groups.

The TÜV test, a compulsory vehicle inspection in Germany, requires a comprehensive examination of various systems including brakes, steering, suspension, and lighting once a vehicle reaches three years of age and every two years thereafter. This rigorous testing process results in the failure of one out of every five vehicles. The findings indicate that the Model 3 encounters more malfunctions than any other automobile in the 2-3 year and 4-5 year age brackets, primarily due to issues with its lighting, brakes, and suspension system.

The TÜV association highlights that electric vehicles, particularly those with heavier weights and regenerative braking systems that reduce the usage of traditional brakes, are more prone to brake and suspension problems.

Interestingly, electric cars built on traditional fuel vehicle platforms, such as the Volkswagen e-Golf and MINI Cooper SE, demonstrate superior reliability compared to those constructed on pure electric platforms, including the Renault Zoe and Tesla Model 3.

Among other models, the Porsche 911 Carrera excelled in the 4-13 year age group, while the Honda Jazz topped the rankings in the 2-3 year age category.
