July 17, 2024 – Porsche has officially commenced production of its first all-electric Macan in Germany, marking a significant milestone in the luxury carmaker’s electric vehicle journey. To cater to a broader consumer base, Porsche has recently unveiled two new variants of the electric Macan – a lighter rear-wheel-drive edition and a dual-motor 4S version.
The Macan, a compact luxury SUV, has been a cornerstone of Porsche’s lineup for the past decade, positioned beneath the larger Cayenne. Although various iterations such as the Macan Turbo have been introduced over the years, an all-electric model was conspicuously absent until now.
Porsche’s foray into fully electric vehicles has been eagerly awaited, and the electric Macan, based on the Volkswagen Group’s PPE architecture, finally made its debut in January. Thanks to its impressive EPA-estimated range of approximately 613 kilometers, the electric Macan garnered over 10,000 orders soon after its launch.
Currently, Porsche offers the electric Macan in two variants: Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. Production commenced at the company’s Leipzig factory in May, followed by deliveries in the EU region.
Just two months later, Porsche announced the addition of two more electric Macan models to its range: the rear-wheel-drive edition and the mid-range 4S variant.
The rear-wheel-drive Macan, the lightest in the series (weighing approximately 110 kilograms less than the Macan 4), is equipped with a 100kWh battery pack and a rear motor borrowed from the Macan 4. This setup delivers a power output of 250kW, with a maximum torque of 568 Nm. It accelerates from 0-96 km/h in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 219 km/h. Both new models support a maximum charging power of 270kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 21 minutes.
Joining the electric Macan lineup is the higher-performance all-wheel-drive Macan 4S. Positioned between the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, it features a new rear-axle motor and a more powerful 600-amp silicon carbide pulse inverter. The front motor remains unchanged from the other Macan models, delivering a combined system output of 330kW, which can reach 380kW in “overboost” mode. With a maximum torque of 785 Nm in launch control mode, the Macan 4S sprints from 0-96 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 239 km/h. For comparison, the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo top out at 219 km/h and 259 km/h, respectively. Additionally, the new model comes standard with adaptive air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic damping control.
Furthermore, Porsche offers a new off-road package for all electric Macan models. This package includes a redesigned front bumper that increases the approach angle to 17.5 degrees and raises the ground clearance by 10 millimeters to 195 millimeters, which can be further extended to 225 millimeters.
The new electric Macan variants are now available for pre-order and are expected to begin deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2024. With the introduction of these new models, pricing for the electric Macan range has been adjusted as follows:
