Mazda Confirms Production of Powerful Iconic SP Hybrid Sports Car with Unique Two-Rotor Engine

November 08, 2024 – Automotive publication Autocar reported yesterday (November 7) that Mazda has confirmed the production of its Iconic SP concept sports car.

Unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show, the Iconic SP concept showcased a hybrid powertrain delivering 370 horsepower, along with a design that seamlessly blends retro styling with modern technology, creating a distinctively appealing aesthetic.

The vehicle’s compact dimensions measure 4180mm in length, 1850mm in width, and 1150mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2590mm, making it similar in size to the Alpine A110.

The interior design takes cues from the MX-5, featuring a minimalist approach with paddle shifters, an accelerometer, and a lap timer, all emphasizing a dynamic driving experience.

Under the hood, the concept sports car is equipped with Mazda’s unique 1.6L Two Rotor Rotary engine, paired with an electric drive system. This combination allows for a maximum power output of 370 horsepower, providing impressive performance capabilities.

The Iconic SP is expected to enter production in 2026, marking Mazda’s further exploration into the field of electrified and lightweight sports cars.

As a compact sports car, the Iconic SP is targeted at consumers who appreciate driving pleasure and high-performance vehicles, especially those with a deep-rooted passion for the Mazda brand.
