Samsung to Include Galaxy Phones in Rental Plan Next Month, Expanding Beyond AI Appliances

January 9, 2025 – According to a report by ETNews, Samsung announced earlier this week that it will soon include Galaxy smartphones and tablets in its “AI Subscription Club” program.

It’s worth noting that Samsung first introduced a subscription service for household appliances in South Korea last year. Just a few weeks after its launch, the subscription volume accounted for nearly 30% of the total sales in Samsung stores in South Korea. This positive outcome has prompted Samsung to decide to include Galaxy phones and tablets in the AI Subscription Club starting next month.

Despite being named the “AI Subscription Club,” the program does not actually refer to the AI functions currently available on many Samsung products. Instead, it specifically refers to the ability to rent products with AI capabilities through the club.

Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics, confirmed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2025) this week that the company “will begin offering subscription services for Galaxy smartphones next month.”

Han Jong-hee also announced that Samsung’s artificial intelligence companion robot for the home, Ballie, will be available in South Korea through the AI Subscription Club program. Ballie will also be sold in the United States, but it will not be offered through a subscription service, at least initially.

Samsung fans may be able to use the latest model of Galaxy phone every year by renting it. If implemented properly, the AI Subscription Club project could become a stable source of income for Samsung.

Currently, Samsung has not announced which Galaxy phones will be available for rent through the AI Subscription Club program. The subscription service appears to be launching first in South Korea in February 2025, and it remains to be seen which regions will be included in the future and how the program will operate specifically.
