August 03, 2024 – According to a recent investor report obtained by MacRumors from Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, Apple is set to upgrade the front-facing cameras in its upcoming iPhone 17 series. All four models of the series, slated for release next year, will be equipped with a 24-megapixel front camera, marking a significant improvement from the 12-megapixel lens featured in the iPhone 15 series.
This development aligns with previous predictions made by Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, who stated in January that at least one model of the iPhone 17 series would sport a 24-megapixel front camera with six lenses. The consistency of these reports from multiple sources enhances their credibility.
Kuo mentioned that Genius Electronic Optical, a key supplier of front camera lenses for iPhones, is likely to benefit from this upgrade. Since 6P lenses have a 100-120% higher unit price compared to 5P lenses, the company is expected to see a significant boost in revenue, potentially exceeding 3 billion New Taiwan dollars in the second half of 2025.
The upgraded front camera in the iPhone 17 series promises to deliver improved image quality and enhanced selfie experiences for users. With a higher megapixel count and additional lens elements, the new camera system is designed to capture more details and provide clearer, sharper images. This upgrade underscores Apple’s commitment to continuously innovating and enhancing the camera capabilities of its flagship smartphone line.
