AMD Takes the Lead: Q3 CPU Shipments Skyrocket

November 12, 2024 – According to data presented in a new investment report by Bank of America, Intel is increasingly being troubled by adverse factors, resulting in the gradual loss of its market share to its microchip rival, AMD.

The report outlines the CPU trends for the third quarter of 2024, highlighting a quarterly decline of approximately 3% in Intel’s PC shipments. Conversely, AMD’s market share witnessed a quarterly growth of 15%.

In the server segment, Bank of America observed that AMD’s shipments increased by 7% quarter-on-quarter and 10% year-on-year in the third quarter. This upturn comes after two consecutive quarters of relatively weak shipments due to the “normalization of CPU inventory.”

Despite AMD’s server average selling prices remaining “flat quarter-on-quarter,” Bank of America anticipates an upward trend in the fourth quarter of 2024 and into 2025, as the company ramps up production of new products with higher core counts.

“We believe AMD’s share will continue to grow, reaching approximately 27% of total CPU revenue share by fiscal year 2026, compared to our previous expectation of 25%, and just 19% in fiscal year 2023,” the report states.
