OpenAI CEO Offers Unlimited Sora Access as a Christmas Gift to Subscribers

December 24, 2024 – Yesterday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced on the X platform that all ChatGPT Plus subscribers will enjoy unlimited access to Sora during the Christmas holiday season. “As people take time off at the end of December, our GPU resources will have some extra capacity,” Altman stated. “Therefore, we’re offering unlimited Sora usage to all our Plus users during the holidays! Feel free to unleash your creativity!”

OpenAI recently concluded its 12-day consecutive release extravaganza, highlighting significant developments such as the launch of Sora, the full availability of ChatGPT Search, the introduction of the o3 model, and a demonstration integrating ChatGPT with Siri in iOS 18.2.

For a monthly subscription fee of $20, ChatGPT Plus users are granted accelerated response times and access to all of OpenAI’s latest models.

In the United States, Christmas vacation typically spans from December 24th (Christmas Eve) to December 26th (the day after Christmas). While the New Year’s holiday often starts on December 31st (New Year’s Eve) and continues until January 1st (New Year’s Day), some regions may extend the break into the first week of January. However, Altman did not specify the exact dates for this Sora access promotion.

According to OpenAI, users can create videos with resolutions up to 1080p and durations not exceeding 20 seconds, available in widescreen, portrait, or square formats. All videos generated by Sora include C2PA metadata for easy identification and source verification.

ChatGPT Plus subscribers are entitled to generate 50 free 480p resolution videos per month. Opting for higher 720p resolution will utilize more of the monthly free video generation quota.

For ChatGPT Pro users, who pay $200 per month, the benefits include a tenfold increase in usage allowance, higher video resolution options, and extended video durations. OpenAI is currently developing customized pricing plans for different user types, with a planned rollout early next year.
