January 24, 2025 – Arthur Mensch, the founder and CEO of French AI startup Mistral AI, stated in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Tuesday that the company has no intention to sell and is planning for an IPO.
During the interview, Mensch also revealed that the company, founded by several former Google DeepMind and Meta employees in early 2023, is strengthening its presence in the Asia-Pacific region by opening an office in Singapore. At the same time, it continues to expand its business in Europe and the United States.

Like its larger American competitors, OpenAI and Anthropic, Mistral AI has released a series of AI models and launched a chatbot service called “le Chat”.
According to Mensch, Mistral AI’s advantage lies in its lower operating costs for AI models. Additionally, it caters to European companies that wish to comply with the EU’s GDPR data export regulations and are reluctant to entrust their data to AI service providers outside the EU.
Recently, in 2024, Mistral AI raised 600 million euros from investors such as A16z, valuing the company at 5.8 billion euros. Mensch emphasized that the company currently has sufficient funds to meet its operational needs, but may seek additional financing in the future to expand its scale and compete with larger rivals.
