December 29, 2024 – According to a report by CNBC today, Google CEO Sundar Pichai informed employees last week that 2025 will be a year of “high risk and big bets” as the company faces intensifying competition, regulatory hurdles, and the rapid advancement of AI.
Pichai stated, “I believe 2025 will be a pivotal year. We need to deeply understand the urgency of the moment and accelerate our pace. This is a time of disruptive influence, and we must focus on driving the transformation brought by technology and solving real problems for our users.”
He also emphasized that building “large new businesses,” including the Gemini app, is a top priority. Executives expressed their belief that Gemini could become Google’s next application to reach 500 million users, a milestone currently achieved by 15 of the company’s apps. “Gemini has shown strong momentum, especially in the past few months. However, we still need to do some work in 2025 to close the gap and establish a leading position.”
Later, Pichai added, “Next year, promoting Gemini on the consumer side will be our top priority.” Furthermore, he presented a chart of large language models, where Gemini 1.5 was ahead of OpenAI’s GPT and other competitors. “I expect some back-and-forth in 2025. I believe we will achieve the most advanced level. Historically, you don’t always need to be first, but you must execute well and be the best in your class. I think that’s what 2025 is about.”
According to its plans, Google will focus primarily on expanding Gemini’s reach to consumers in the coming year.
