Gemini Hits 350M MAUs but Trails Behind ChatGPT in AI Chatbot Race

April 24, 2025 – Internal data revealed during the ongoing Google antitrust lawsuit indicates that as of March, Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, had amassed a global monthly active user base of 350 million.

Over the past year, Google’s AI offerings have witnessed an explosive surge in usage. Statistics show that Gemini’s daily active users stood at a mere 9 million in October 2024, but by last month, this figure had soared to 35 million.

Despite Gemini’s rapid user growth, it still lags behind the industry’s most popular AI tools. According to data presented by Google in court, ChatGPT boasted approximately 600 million monthly active users in March of this year. Similarly, Meta AI, whose CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced last September had nearly 500 million monthly active users, remains a formidable competitor.

While there are slight variations in how companies calculate monthly active users (MAU), the aforementioned data still provides a clear picture of Gemini’s widespread acceptance among consumers. In the past year, Google has successfully introduced its AI product to millions of users through partnerships with Samsung phones, integrating Gemini into Google Workspace applications, and embedding it within the Chrome browser.
