BRICS Spotlight: Huawei’s Tri-Fold Phone Steals the Show at the New Delhi Summit

September 15, 2026 – At the BRICS New Delhi Summit, media cameras captured footage of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov using the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design tri-fold smartphone, sparking widespread attention.

Public footage showed Lavrov operating the Huawei tri-fold device at the summit venue.

However, this is not the first time Lavrov has used Huawei consumer devices. Media reports have previously confirmed that he stopped using the Apple iPhone a long time ago and switched to Huawei devices. He has also been photographed wearing a Huawei smartwatch and using a Huawei P60 Pro smartphone.

Furthermore, during the BRICS Business Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly named Huawei on September 11.

According to public media transcripts, Putin stated, “China’s Huawei is a world-class global tech giant.” He listed Huawei as one of the representative success stories of BRICS nations. He also pointed out that the collective GDP contribution of BRICS countries exceeds 40% of the global total, surpassing the 29% contributed by the G7. His remarks were met with applause from the audience.

It is understood that as the world’s first mass-produced commercial tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design has attracted significant attention from both domestic and international markets since its launch, thanks to its unique multi-fold form factor.

During the same event cycle, Putin and Lavrov demonstrated their recognition of Huawei’s products and corporate strength through public statements and actual usage, respectively.
