April 30, 2026 – The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) in the United States has just unveiled the car theft statistics for 2025. According to the report, a total of 659,880 vehicles were stolen across the country throughout the year, marking a 23% decline compared to the previous year. On average, a car was stolen every 48 seconds.

When it comes to the most frequently stolen car models, the Hyundai Elantra topped the list with 21,732 thefts. The Honda Accord followed closely in second place, with 17,797 stolen vehicles, while the Hyundai Sonata ranked third, having 17,687 thefts.

The top-ten list also included other well – known models such as the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Honda Civic, Kia Optima, Ford F – 150, Toyota Camry, Honda CR – V, and Nissan Altima.

In the past, Hyundai and Kia models faced a higher risk of theft due to issues with their anti – theft configurations. However, the number of thefts of these two brands’ vehicles has been on a continuous decline for three consecutive years in 2025. They accounted for 14% of the total stolen vehicles, a significant drop from 23% in 2023.

Some models on the list, like the Ford F – 150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500, are best – selling vehicles with a large market presence in the US. This high market share is one of the reasons for their relatively high theft numbers.
