June 23, 2025 – OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, revealed on Wednesday that Meta had made an audacious attempt to poach one of their employees with a staggering $100 million offer, though the move ultimately fell through.
In response, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth, who has been with the company since 2006 and took on the CTO role in 2022, shared his perspective during a Friday appearance on the “Closing Bell Overtime” podcast. Bosworth hinted that OpenAI was no pushover, as the company had rolled out countermeasures in the form of competitive compensation packages to retain its talent in the face of Meta’s lucrative offers.

“The market is setting an incredibly high bar for compensation in this talent pool,” Bosworth remarked. “It’s something I’ve never witnessed in my two decades as a tech executive.”
He also took the opportunity to elaborate on Meta’s technological vision. “We firmly believe that in the future, super-intelligent AI will be there to assist humans at every turn—ready to step in whenever people need a helping hand,” Bosworth explained. “Fortunately, we’ve managed to bring together a strong internal and external team, including talents like Alexander Wang, to drive this vision forward.”
From a financial standpoint, Meta’s capital expenditures and principal payments on finance leases reached nearly $14 billion in the first quarter of this year. Bosworth emphasized the company’s commitment to aligning its talent investments with this ambitious goal. “We’re matching our investment in talent with the necessary resources,” he added. “It’s the combination of computational power and skilled personnel that will truly make our vision a reality.”
