June 18, 2024 – According to a blog post by Ming-Chi Kuo on his Medium account, Qualcomm is planning to introduce a low-cost Windows on Arm (WoA) processor, codenamed “Canim,” in the fourth quarter of 2025. This processor is intended for mainstream devices priced between 599and799.
Kuo also mentioned that Qualcomm will launch enhanced versions of its Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite processors in 2025, alongside the introduction of the Canim processor. The Canim chip, produced using TSMC’s N4 process technology, is estimated to have an AI computing power on par with the existing X Elite and X Plus processors, reaching 40 TOPS (tera operations per second).
Furthermore, Kuo predicts that the shipment volume of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus processors will reach 2 million units in 2024, with a forecasted year-on-year growth of 100-200% in 2025.
Additionally, Kuo stated that the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (SM8750), which is scheduled to enter mass production in the latter half of 2024, will have a price tag of $190-200 due to its use of TSMC’s latest and more costly N3E process technology. This represents a 25-30% increase compared to the current flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (SM8650).
