OpenAI to Boost Creativity with Sora Integration into ChatGPT and New Sora Turbo

March 1, 2025 – According to an announcement made by an OpenAI executive during a Discord office hour session yesterday, the company plans to eventually integrate its AI video generation tool, Sora, directly into the chatbot ChatGPT.

Currently, Sora is only available as a dedicated web application launched by OpenAI in December last year, allowing users to generate short videos of up to 20 seconds. However, Rohan Sahai, the product lead for Sora, revealed that OpenAI intends to expand Sora’s availability to more platforms and enhance its creative capabilities.

Initially marketed towards creative workers and video production companies, OpenAI is now ramping up efforts to make its AI video creation tool appealing to a broader user base.

Sahai stated that OpenAI is actively working on integrating Sora into ChatGPT, although a specific launch date has not been disclosed. The final integrated version of Sora in ChatGPT may not offer the same level of editing control, such as video clipping and splicing, as the web application version.

During the meeting, Sahai mentioned that OpenAI had initially released Sora as a standalone web app to maintain the simplicity of ChatGPT.

Since its launch, OpenAI has continuously improved the Sora web experience, adding more ways for users to browse through community-generated videos. Sahai also hinted that OpenAI is “eager” to introduce a standalone mobile app for Sora and revealed that the Sora team is currently seeking mobile developers.

Furthermore, OpenAI plans to extend Sora’s capabilities to image generation. Sahai confirmed that the company is developing an AI image generator powered by Sora. While ChatGPT already supports image generation through OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 model, a Sora-driven image generator could potentially allow users to create even more realistic photos.

Additionally, Sahai mentioned that OpenAI is working on an upgraded version of Sora called Sora Turbo.
