March 1, 2025 – Microsoft has announced the official launch of the SMS text messaging feature within its Microsoft Teams application in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. This new functionality allows users to send and receive SMS text messages directly within Teams Chat. The company plans to further expand this feature to the global market in the future.
According to Microsoft’s blog post, the SMS feature is available to users who have purchased the Microsoft Teams Calling Plans subscription and are located in the United States, Puerto Rico, or Canada. These users can now receive SMS text messages in Teams Chat and send messages to other users in these regions.

It’s important to note that all SMS messages sent and received through Teams are considered business-to-person (B2P) or application-to-person (A2P) messages, rather than consumer-to-consumer messages.
To utilize the SMS feature on Teams, organizations and their users must register to use the 10-digit long code (10DLC) network. This registration process helps reduce the chances of messages being flagged as spam. With this new integration, Microsoft Teams users in the supported regions can enjoy a more seamless communication experience within the app.
