August 19, 2024 – According to a supply chain rumor reported by the Taiwanese media outlet Economic Daily News, Foxconn Group’s casing manufacturer, Foxconn Precision, has been included in Apple’s robot supply chain partnership list due to its experience in mass-producing robot-related components. The collaboration aims to tap into the vast opportunities presented by the robotics market.
The report indicates that Foxconn Precision is primarily responsible for the development of structural components and casings for Apple’s upcoming desktop robot. Once the new Apple product is released, Foxconn Precision will mass-produce these components, positioning itself as a pioneer in Foxconn Group’s expansion into the robotics sector.
During this year’s shareholder meeting, Foxconn Precision announced its intention to invest capital in new target areas, specifically robotics and artificial intelligence. Currently, the company is focusing on research and development related to advanced materials application and surface treatment technologies for robots, aiming to seize market opportunities. Previously, Foxconn Precision had experience in manufacturing and assembling Foxconn’s own “FoxBot” robots.
Earlier this month, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is advancing the development of its desktop robot project. This device, equipped with a large display screen similar to an iPad, will be supported by a slender robotic arm capable of tilting and rotating 360 degrees. It is envisioned to serve as a smart home control center, video conferencing terminal, and home security monitoring system.
Apple plans to launch this innovative device as early as 2026 or 2027, with a target price of approximately $1,000. However, it is important to note that specific plans may undergo adjustments as the research and development progress.
