Gurman: Apple Expected to Skip M4 Chip for Mac Lineup at WWDC 2024

June 03, 2024 – Despite the recent launch of the iPad Pro equipped with the cutting-edge M4 chip, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has revealed in a recent communication that Apple will not unveil any Mac computers powered by the M4 chip during the upcoming WWDC 2024. This news comes as a surprise given the high anticipation surrounding the anticipated hardware upgrades.

The M4 chip, touted as a masterpiece tailored for AI computing, boasts a second-generation 3nm process, incorporating a staggering 28 billion transistors. Equipped with a new display engine and a CPU configuration of 4 high-performance cores and 6 efficiency cores, the M4 chip, according to Apple, introduces dynamic caching, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and hardware-accelerated grid shading to the iPad for the first time.

Currently, Apple’s Mac lineup is powered by the M3, Pro, and Max chips. Although previous reports from Gurman indicated that the company was planning to update the MacBook Pro with the M4, Pro, and Max series in October this year, and the Mac Pro and Studio with the M4 Pro and Max in the middle of next year, the decision to hold off on revealing M4-powered products at WWDC 2024 is unexpected, especially considering the conference’s focus on artificial intelligence.

This delay in introducing the AI-powered M4 chips to the Mac lineup may suggest that Apple is fine-tuning the technology to ensure a seamless integration with its professional-grade computers. Nonetheless, the anticipation for what the future holds for Apple’s hardware ecosystem remains high, with many eagerly awaiting the next evolution in the company’s innovative lineup.
