Google’s Initial Shopping Mall Retail Outlet Opens Its Doors

November 01, 2024 – According to a blog post published by tech media outlet 9to5Google on October 31st, Google has opened its first-ever Google Store retail location within a shopping mall today, November 1st.

The new retail outlet is situated in the Oakbrook Center mall in Oak Brook, Illinois, marking the tech giant’s fifth physical store and its inaugural venture into a shopping mall setting. Previously, Google’s four other retail stores were primarily located within its campuses, with the first one opening on the ground floor of its New York office in 2021, followed by another at its Mountain View headquarters in 2023.

Located approximately 25 minutes from downtown Chicago, Oakbrook Center is a sizable shopping destination that already hosts retailers such as Macy’s and Nordstrom, as well as an Apple store.

The new Google Store continues the company’s signature wooden design theme, featuring a white “Google Store” logo suspended from its exterior and black frames surrounding large windows. Inside, customers are greeted by three clusters of tablets displaying Google products, while the walls are adorned with additional showcase items. A central “Help is Here” desk offers troubleshooting services and Pixel phone repairs. Shoppers have the flexibility to purchase products in-store or opt for online orders with in-store pickup.
