Disney Names Ex-Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman as New Chairman

October 23, 2024 – Disney has officially appointed former Morgan Stanley CEO James P. Gorman as its new chairman, effective January 2, 2025.

According to reports, Gorman will succeed current Chairman Mark G. Parker, who has served on Disney’s board for nine years and is currently the Executive Chairman of Nike. Parker will step down to focus on other commitments, including increasing his involvement with Nike, which also welcomed a new CEO last week, with Elliott Hill taking over from John Donahoe.

Meanwhile, Disney has announced plans to reveal its next CEO in early 2026, preparing for the succession of current CEO Bob Iger. Iger’s contract is set to expire on December 31, 2026, and he has postponed his retirement five times. However, insiders reveal that both he and the board are still considering whether to extend his term beyond 2026.
