CrowdStrike Offers $10 Gift Cards to Customers Hit by Widespread Windows Blue Screen Issue

July 25, 2024 – Last Friday, a faulty security update from CrowdStrike caused over 8.5 million computers worldwide running Microsoft’s Windows system to experience a blue screen error, leading to widespread disruption of global internet services across various industries.

According to a tweet from @64Uni_Lions, he recently received an apology letter from Daniel Bernard, the Chief Business Officer of CrowdStrike, which included a $10 Uber Eats gift card as a gesture of goodwill. However, when users attempted to redeem the gift card, they discovered that it had been “deactivated.” The Uber Eats page stated that the gift card had been “cancelled by the issuer and is no longer valid.” Kevin Benacci, a spokesman for CrowdStrike, confirmed to TechCrunch that the company did send out the gift cards but did not provide a reason for their deactivation.

As shown in the attached image, CrowdStrike has acknowledged the “additional work” caused by the incident on July 19th. They expressed their gratitude for everyone’s understanding and apologized for any inconvenience caused. As a token of appreciation, they offered to cover the cost of a coffee or late-night snack, stating, “Your next coffee or midnight snack is on us!”
