Apple’s macOS Golden Gate Boosts AirDrop Speeds by 80% in Major WWDC 2026 Reveal

June 9, 2026 – Apple officially unveiled macOS Golden Gate at WWDC 2026, marking a substantial leap forward for the desktop platform in both performance and AI integration.

The headline numbers are striking. Apple claims iPhone and iPad apps now launch up to 30% faster on Mac, while photo library browsing has been accelerated by 70%. AirDrop transfer speeds jump 80%, and cloud storage operations are now five times quicker than before. System-wide content loading has received a blanket speed boost across the board.

Beyond raw performance, macOS Golden Gate is the first version to ship with Apple Intelligence and a completely redesigned Siri AI assistant. The update will roll out exclusively to Macs powered by Apple silicon starting September 2026.

Apple also pushed the boundaries of cross-device compatibility. Any iPhone capable of running iOS 26 will be supported, expanding the ecosystem to older iPhone models and tightening the integration between macOS and iOS for a wider user base.
