Apple Unveils iOS 17.2 RC with Revolutionary Qi2 Wireless Charging for iPhone 13 and 14

December 06, 2023 – Today marks a significant milestone for Apple users, as the tech giant rolled out its latest iOS 17.2 RC (Release Candidate) update to developers and public beta testers, unlocking a vital new feature for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models: Qi2 wireless charging support. This advanced update, virtually indistinguishable from the final version, is expected to reach all users in the upcoming week.

The iOS 17.2 RC not only addresses several issues but also introduces an array of new features. According to the version’s release notes, it adds a space video recording feature exclusively for the iPhone 15 Pro series and a translation function to the operational buttons of the same series. Additionally, users can now enjoy a newly designed weather widget and authorize Siri to access and record health data.

A major highlight of this update is the extension of Qi2 charger support to all iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models. Previously, the Qi2 wireless charging, a cutting-edge standard introduced by the Wireless Power Consortium this year, was an exclusive feature of the iPhone 15 series. Qi2 technology, with its magnetic power distribution map, promises a more efficient charging experience by ensuring a perfect alignment between the device and the charger. This technology not only boosts charging efficiency but also supports up to 15W charging speed while maintaining safety, thereby preserving battery life and preventing charger damage.

Furthermore, the Qi2 charging devices, similar to Apple’s MagSafe accessories, utilize magnetic alignment to align the device’s and charger’s coils, leading to faster and more efficient charging. This update represents Apple’s commitment to enhancing user experience and keeping pace with technological advancements.
