Apple Embraces Bigger Screens: No More Small-Screen iPhones

February 20, 2025 – Apple today unveiled the iPhone 16e while bidding farewell to the iPhone SE 3, signaling a shift as the company’s iPhone lineup has fully transitioned into the era of 6.x-inch screens, with no “small-screen” smartphones remaining in its sales portfolio.

Here’s a look back at the evolution of iPhone screen sizes and their corresponding models:

3.5 inches: The original iPhone (2007)

4 inches: iPhone 5 (2012)

4.7 inches: iPhone 6 (2014)

5.5 inches: iPhone 6 Plus (2014)

5.8 inches: iPhone X (2017)

5.4 inches: iPhone 12 mini (2020)

Currently, the smallest iPhone available from Apple measures 6.1 inches, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 16e, and iPhone 16. The iPhone 16 Pro comes in at 6.3 inches, while the larger models, the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 16 Plus, offer 6.7-inch screens. The flagship iPhone 16 Pro Max boasts a expansive 6.9-inch display.

With no rumors of a small-screen iPhone on the horizon and all current models featuring screens no smaller than 6 inches, it appears that Apple has officially turned its back on the small-screen smartphone market.
