August 01, 2024 – Uber Technologies and BYD Company Limited have announced a long-term strategic partnership that will introduce 100,000 BYD electric vehicles to the Uber platform in multiple global markets.
Moreover, the two companies will collaborate on the development of autonomous driving technology, with plans to deploy BYD’s self-driving vehicles on the Uber platform.
According to the statement, the partnership will initially roll out in Europe and Latin America, followed by expansion into the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
To support drivers in their transition to electric vehicles, the partnership may also involve discounts on charging, vehicle maintenance or insurance, and financing and leasing offers, depending on specific programs tailored to each market.
The collaboration aims to reduce the total cost of ownership of electric vehicles for Uber drivers, accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles on the global Uber platform, and provide a more environmentally friendly travel experience for millions of passengers.
Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, stated, “Uber and BYD share a commitment to innovation and creating a cleaner, greener world. I am thrilled to be moving towards this future together.”
Previous reports indicate that BYD sold 341,700 new energy vehicles in June, representing a 35.02% year-on-year increase. Among these, 27,000 were new energy passenger vehicles sold overseas.
