October 11, 2024 – According to a report published today by carscoops, BMW has commenced mass production of its Skytop sports car, with a strictly limited edition of only 50 units worldwide. Remarkably, all 50 cars have already been fully booked and sold out.
Initially unveiled as a concept car at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy earlier this year, BMW hinted at a possible limited production run based on feedback from potential customers. The company had indicated a 2026 timeline for this limited edition release.
However, the latest update reveals that BMW has moved swiftly to produce the Skytop, limiting the run to just 50 vehicles. While the official pricing remains undisclosed, comparisons are being drawn to the BMW 3.0 CSL, another limited edition of 50 cars, which sold for 820,000in2022andlaterfetchedupto1.35 million in the secondary market. Experts predict a similar pricing trajectory for the Skytop.
The Skytop is built upon the foundation of the BMW M8 Competition, inheriting its powerful 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. This engine delivers an impressive 460 kW of power and 750 Nm of torque, equivalent to 617 horsepower, propelling the car from 0 to 62 miles per hour (0-100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds.
