Microsoft Announces End of Support for Classic Teams, Urges Migration to New Version

April 26, 2024 – Microsoft has recently updated its official support documentation, announcing that it has notified users still utilizing the classic version of Microsoft Teams about the impending end of support for the application on July 1, 2024. The company urges these users to migrate to the newer version at the earliest.

According to Microsoft’s notice, once support for the classic Teams app ends, the company will cease pushing updates, patches, and new features to it.

The official communication from Microsoft also outlines specific end dates for the availability of the classic Teams app on different operating systems. For users on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, the app will no longer be available from October 23, 2024. Meanwhile, those on Windows 10, macOS Big Sur (11), LTSC, or users facing configuration issues, will see the classic Teams app terminate its availability on July 1, 2025.

In case users are unable to upgrade to the new Teams client on their devices, Microsoft offers the new Teams Web app as an alternative, which can be accessed through supported browsers.
